This depends on different needs; SAP BW and SAP Datasphere are enterprise data warehouses that allow for the integration and standardisation of SAP and non-SAP data. They serve as a single, comprehensive source of historical information, which requires persistence.
For information to be extracted in real-time, S/4HANA relies on technologies such as Core Data Services (CDS) and Virtual Data Model (VDM).
